Thoughtfully designed products that solve problems always have a spot in my truck or boat. The RUX 30L Waterproof Tote Bag is one of those items, and the problem it solves is twofold. It can keep water from entering the bag just as easily as it can keep water from exiting.

I noticed those benefits while using the RUX 30L on a late December sea duck hunt. I packed extra layers to wear after I set my spread, and I wanted them dry and ready for use for when I climbed aboard my layout. The second was that I wanted to simplify my post-hunt routine by keeping the water and sand from my waders contained and not leaking all over the other gear inside of my truck. The RUX 30L achieved both objectives.

The body of the bag is made from a 840Denier TPU-coated nylon. The 840 Denier refers to the fabric’s thickness and durability, and that is short handle for the fact that this is a bag that can handle abrasion and hard wear-and-tear associated with the sporting life. For comparison, 840 Denier fabric is frequently used in soft, car roof-rack bags. That fabric withstands varying outdoor temperatures that range from extreme heat to bitter cold. The TPU coating – thermoplastic polyurethane – adds a tight, seamless barrier that is completely waterproof. Next-level TPU coatings contribute durability and flexibility in cold temperatures. The fabric doesn’t become brittle or crack with frequent use, and it is chemical and UV resistant. Oils, gas, grease, and the sun’s rays don’t cause fabric degradation.

The two-design compartment really makes the tote shine. The fully welded, no-zipper, waterproof construction makes the 30L an open tote bag that carries 30 liters of gear in a bag that is 13” wide by 9” long by 14” high. It shifts into high gear by unfolding the 420 Denier TPU-coated nylon hood that is sealed to the body of the tote bag. A roll-top at the mouth that is similar to a dry bag makes the RUX 30L as waterproof as a dry bag. It’s easy to use by simply unfurling the hood, filling the bag with gear, and then rolling the top closed. To keep the hood from unfurling just clip it off with the attached nylon locking buckles.

Secondary items make the bag user-friendly. The 30L is structured to stand up and stay open, which makes for easy packing. The removable shoulder strap is adjustable, and there are 360 degree lashpoints that allow the bag to be tied off on a kayak or a rack. The bottom has a foam padding, which adds protection, and a compression strap closes the bag when it’s used as a tote and keeps gear from falling out. A part of the bag that shouldn’t be overlooked is its unpacked weight of 19.4 ounces, which keeps the overall load weight down from other bags. The bag’s simple, clean design makes it useful for a wide range of sports, from hunting and fishing to boating, camping, or just going to the beach.

The bag has a lifetime warranty, and it comes in three colors: bronze, black, and green. MSRP is $170.00.
